U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) has addressed South Carolina residents as storms intensify along the state’s coastline and with a possible federal government shutdown approaching on October 1.

“With storms intensifying off our coast and the possibility of a government shutdown on the horizon, I want to reassure South Carolinians that my office remains committed to serving you. Even if federal funding lapses, my team will continue to assist constituents and our phone lines will remain open,” Scott said in his statement.

He urged residents to stay alert and take precautions. “As we closely monitor the developing weather, now is the time to prepare and pray for protection. Please follow all guidance from local emergency officials, make sure you have essential supplies, and know your evacuation route. Your safety is my top priority, and my office stands ready to coordinate with local, state, and federal partners to provide any necessary support.”

Scott noted that during previous government shutdowns, agencies like the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and U.S. Coast Guard have continued their operations.
