U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) has recognized a $218,000 cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Project to support high-speed internet expansion in Hampton County, South Carolina. The funding will assist the Hampton County Government in improving connectivity across eight communities.
According to Senator Scott, “Access to reliable high-speed internet is no longer a luxury – it’s an economic necessity. This USDA investment in Hampton County will help bridge the digital divide and ensure our rural communities have the connectivity they need to compete in the 21st century economy. From telemedicine and distance learning to agricultural innovation and small business growth, broadband access opens doors to countless opportunities.”
The USDA Rural Development funds are intended for a comprehensive feasibility study and promotion of broadband initiatives throughout Hampton County. The goal is to address longstanding digital gaps that have limited economic development and essential services in rural areas.
Hampton County Government plans to use the grant for detailed assessments and strategic planning aimed at expanding broadband infrastructure. The study will focus on identifying effective methods for delivering reliable internet service to underserved parts of the county.
