The U.S. Senate has passed a spending package that will fund several key federal departments through September 2026, avoiding a government shutdown. The appropriations bills provide full-year funding for the Departments of Defense, Financial Services and General Government, Labor, Health and Human Services, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs. Funding for the Department of Homeland Security will also continue.
Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) commented on the passage: “This funding package delivers results on kitchen-table issues for patients, families, and service members by keeping our focus on affordability, access to care, and the safety of Americans,” said Sen. Scott. “I’m proud to see multiple policies I’ve worked on pass the Senate and move one step closer to becoming law, improving the lives of South Carolinians across our state.”
The legislation includes several health care provisions authored or co-led by Senator Scott. Among these is an extension of health care programs such as telehealth services. These extensions are funded without increasing the federal deficit due to reforms in Pharmacy Benefit Manager practices aimed at reducing drug costs for Americans.
