South Carolina Track & Field athlete JaMeesia Ford was named SEC Women’s Runner of the Week, according to an April 28 announcement from the league office.
Ford earned this recognition after winning both the 100-meter and 200-meter races at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Alabama. In her first competition of the season, Ford ran a season-best time of 11.22 seconds in the 100 meters. Later that day, she opened her outdoor season in the 200 meters with a time of 22.07 seconds, which is currently the fastest mark recorded in National Collegiate Athletic Association competition this year.
The honor highlights Ford’s strong start to her junior campaign and underscores her standing among collegiate sprinters nationwide.
Looking ahead, South Carolina will conclude its regular season at two upcoming meets. The team is scheduled to compete at the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Florida on Friday and Saturday. Meanwhile, members of South Carolina’s distance group will participate in the Duke Twilight meet on Sunday in North Carolina.
Ford’s recent performances position her as one to watch as postseason competitions approach.
