South Carolina’s softball team defeated No. 11 Texas A&M 3-1 in a series opener on April 24, with Natalie Heath hitting a three-run home run that secured the victory on Senior Night.
The game was significant as it honored eight seniors from the South Carolina roster: Josey Marron, Sage Scarmardo, Lexi Winters, Arianna Rodi, Jamie Mackay, Natalie Heath, Jori Heard, and Quincee Lilio. The recognition of these players highlighted their contributions to the program as they near the end of their collegiate careers.
Pitcher Jori Heard earned her eleventh win of the season by holding Texas A&M to one run in a complete game performance. She allowed seven hits and recorded five strikeouts. Lexi Winters contributed offensively by going two-for-two at bat while Heath drove in all three runs for South Carolina.
The key moment came in the bottom of the second inning when Tori Ensley singled and Kai Byars walked to put two runners on base. On a 1-0 pitch count, Heath hit her first home run of the season—a three-run shot that traveled 229 feet into left center field—giving South Carolina an early lead.
Texas A&M responded with a solo home run in the sixth inning but could not overcome South Carolina’s defense. In the final inning, Heard faced bases loaded with one out but secured her fifth strikeout to end the game and preserve the win for her team.
The Gamecocks will continue their series against Texas A&M on Saturday at 1 p.m., with coverage available via SEC Network+.
