About The Chamber: The Lexington Chamber and Visitors Center (LCVC) has been creating a community that grows business for more than 60 years. While our organization now serves more than 700 businesses, we offer a welcoming environment for owners and employees to advance their business. The Chamber provides meaningful programs and events to foster business relationships with other professionals. Our work with public policy officials is critical in providing a pro-business climate for businesses to thrive, grow and prosper.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The LCVC is seeking a dynamic, customer-service oriented Membership Director. The candidate shall be committed to creating a positive member experience for area businesses and be focused on member growth and engagement. The individual will direct all member relations activities, exploring new programs, services, and benefits for the membership division of the Lexington Chamber, a 501(c)6 non-profit association of 700+ Lexington and Midlands businesses.

As Lexington continues to grow in population, the demand for business services also increases. Hence, the candidate will be responsible for actively recruiting new businesses and developing an aggressive member retention strategy. Other duties include staffing a Membership Committee, the Ambassador program, and other member-centric programs, as assigned.

Direct and manage year-long membership recruitment and retention/engagement strategies to achieve organizational financial objectives.

Develop prospect lists to identify and recruit new businesses through member acquisition campaigns, promotion at community and business events, or other outreach strategies.

Manage relationships with key stakeholders, business networking groups and community leaders to facilitate new memberships.

Actively follow-up with existing member accounts to ensure prompt renewals.

Manage new member onboarding program and ongoing retention efforts to improve communications, engagement, satisfaction and return on investment.

Ensure work and information are complete and accurate; carefully prepares for presentations and meetings, including development of agenda and recording of minutes; follows up with others to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled.

Comfortable speaking to small and large groups, presenting information, and marketing the Chamber’s programs, services, and benefits.

Support and promote Chamber events.

This position reports to the President & CEO and has responsibility for external membership account representative(s).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field (preferred)
  • 2 -3 years of experience in sales, customer service, membership, program management or similar field. Prior non-profit chamber or association experience is beneficial.
  • Strong computer acumen with CRM/AMS (Association Mgmt. Systems) databases; ChamberMaster databased experience a plus.
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work well with key stakeholders, i.e. Chamber businesses, Board of Directors, community leaders, and the public
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). Knowledge of Constant Contact, Mail Chimp or other email communication software helpful.

Requirements

-Ability to lift 25 lbs. and transport Chamber event materials.

-Valid South Carolina driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required.

-Ability to be flexible in working some early morning and evening work events. One signature event occurs on a weekend day.

-Must be professional in appearance and demeanor. This is a highly visible position.
