South Carolina’s men’s basketball team will return to Colonial Life Arena this week for two home games, beginning with a matchup against No. 19/21 Florida on Wednesday night. The Gamecocks, currently 11-9 overall and 2-5 in SEC play, will face the defending national champions as they seek to recover from a recent loss at Texas A&M.

The game is scheduled for a 9 p.m. (ET) tip-off and will be broadcast on the SEC Network, with Roy Philpott providing play-by-play commentary and Rodney Terry as analyst. Fans attending are encouraged to wear white for the designated “whiteout” game. The first 1,500 students entering The Cockpit section will receive a special white jersey, and free food will be available for the first 250 students.

South Carolina aims to improve after their road defeat by Texas A&M last Saturday. Meechie Johnson led the Gamecocks in that game with 26 points, five assists, four rebounds, and one steal. Johnson has been effective at the free throw line recently, making all ten of his attempts at College Station and extending his consecutive made free throws to nineteen.

Johnson’s performance in SEC contests has included averages of 18.7 points, 5.4 assists, three rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game while achieving career-best shooting percentages across multiple categories. According to South Carolina Athletics: “Johnson is one of just four players in the SEC to rank in the top-10 in scoring and top-five in assists per game in SEC play.” He is also among only four players this season in the conference averaging at least fifteen points, four assists, three rebounds, and one steal per contest.

As a team through twenty games, South Carolina leads the SEC—and ranks eighth nationally—in free throw percentage at 78.7%. They are also third in their conference (28th nationally) for limiting opponents’ three-point accuracy to under thirty percent. Alongside UCONN, South Carolina is one of two high-major programs holding teams below thirty percent from long range when facing fewer than thirty-five percent three-point attempts according to KenPom data.

Defensively this season they have allowed an average of seventy-three points per game—fifth-best among SEC teams.

Florida enters Wednesday’s contest following a home loss against Auburn but had previously won five straight games with high offensive output during that stretch. Junior forward Thomas Haugh leads Florida statistically with averages of seventeen points and nearly seven rebounds per game; junior center Rueben Chinyelu tops both the conference and ranks fifth nationally with eleven rebounds per contest.

Florida’s front court is considered among the best nationally; they lead Division I teams in total rebounds (46.2) and offensive boards (17.2) per game as well as rebound margin (+15.4).

Historically, Florida holds a fifty-to-twenty-nine advantage over South Carolina all-time; within Columbia specifically that record stands at twenty-five wins for Florida versus sixteen for South Carolina.

Other notable statistics highlight South Carolina’s performance under head coach Lamont Paris:
“13 – Per the ESPN Basketball Power Index for the 2025-26 season, South Carolina’s remaining strength of schedule is No. 13 in the nation.”
“15-1 – The Gamecocks have a 15-1 record under Lamont Paris when shooting 50% or higher.”
“20-1 – The Gamecocks are [have] a 20-1 record under Paris when scoring eighty or more points.”
“47-10 – The Gamecocks are forty-seven-and-ten in four seasons under Paris when holding teams below seventy points (.825 win %).”
Paris has participated in ten NCAA Tournaments as an assistant or head coach during his collegiate career.

Following Wednesday’s matchup against Florida, South Carolina will remain at home to host LSU on Saturday evening.
