The South Carolina Gamecocks men’s and women’s track and field teams both finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Indoor Championship on March 14, marking the first time since 2005 that both squads have achieved this milestone. The men tied for seventh place with 20 points, while the women secured eighth place with 24 points.
This achievement is significant as it represents a return to national prominence for both programs. For the men’s team, it was their first top-10 finish since 2010 and their best result since placing fourth in 2003. The women’s team last reached the top ten indoors in 2019, and this marks their second consecutive overall national championship top-10 finish after placing seventh at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championship.
A highlight of the meet came from the men’s 4×400 meter relay team—Josiah Wrice, Jasauna Dennis, Devan Crumpton, and Andrew Salvodon—who won the NCAA Indoor Championship crown with a time of 3:02.07. This was a historic first for South Carolina’s program. Wrice also set a school record in the individual 400 meters with a time of 45.12 to finish fifth overall, breaking Olympic gold medalist Quincy Hall’s previous mark. Tyson Williams placed fifth in the men’s 200 meters, while Jaouad Khchina finished seventh in the mile event.
On the women’s side, all five events entered resulted in points scored on championship day. The women’s 4×400 meter relay team earned bronze medals with a time of 3:26.44—the second fastest in program history—and JaMeesia Ford finished fourth in the women’s 200 meters for her third straight First Team All-American honor indoors. Salma Elbadra became South Carolina’s first female scorer ever in the indoor NCAA Championship’s 3000 meters event by finishing seventh, while Jathiyah Muhammad broke her own school record to take seventh place in pole vault.
With indoor season concluded, both teams will begin outdoor competition at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Conway starting March 19.
