South Carolina Track & Field delivered a strong performance on May 2 at the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Florida, as both the men’s and women’s teams improved their standings in the East Regional leaderboard during their final regular season meet.
The results are significant as they position the Gamecocks favorably heading into postseason competition. The team secured six overall wins and recorded five new Top 10 program marks at Hodges Stadium.
The women’s squad accounted for four victories, including standout performances in hurdles and sprints. Joslyn Hamilton won the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a personal best of 12.91 seconds, moving her to second all-time in school history and fourth in the region. Akala Garrett finished third with a season-best time of 13.06 seconds, now eighth fastest in school history and among the Top 20 regionally. Kyndall Harrington-Spain also set a personal record to finish fifth.
JaMeesia Ford claimed first place in the women’s 100 meters with a season-best time of 11.09 seconds, ranking seventh regionally. The women’s relay teams swept both events: Alexis Brown, Cynteria James, Zaya Akins, and Ford ran the third-fastest school time ever (42.82) to win the 4×100 meter relay; Garrett, James, Ford, and Harrington-Spain took first place in the 4×400 meter relay.
On the men’s side, Josiah Wrice led by winning his third title this season in the men’s 400 meters with a time of 44.92 seconds; teammates Devan Crumpton (45.19), Jasauna Dennis (45.70), and Andrew Salvodon (46.85) followed closely behind—all finishing within the top five with notable times or personal bests.
Other highlights included David Warmington Jr.’s runner-up finish in the men’s 110-meter hurdles finals with his best result this year (13.75), Ellis Neighbors’ second-place javelin throw which was also a personal best (68.42m), and Robert Stitts Jr.’s wind-aided sixth-place finish in the men’s 100 meters.
Looking ahead, South Carolina’s distance runners will conclude their regular season at Duke Twilight on Saturday evening.
