Frankie Harris ties school record with fifth career win at Puerto Rico Classic

Redshirt senior Frankie Harris secured his second win of the season at the Puerto Rico Classic, leading South Carolina’s men’s golf team as they began their spring schedule. Harris, from Boca Raton, Florida, recorded rounds of 67, 67, and 66 for a total score of 200 (-16), setting a new personal best over 54 holes.

Harris achieved 16 birdies across three rounds and tied for first in par-5 scoring average (4.17, -10). He also tied for third in par-4 scoring average (3.80, -6). This victory marks his fifth career win as a Gamecock starter, tying him with Kyle Thompson for the most individual wins in program history.

South Carolina finished fifth overall with a team score of 833 (-31) at Grand Reserve Golf Club. The team posted sub-280 scores each day. Three of the program’s top-20 lowest 54-hole scores have been recorded at this event in the past five seasons.

Freshman Talan Harrison finished tied for 14th after shooting a combined score of 207 (-9), including rounds of 68, 69, and 70. Harrison made his second career top-20 finish and matched Harris with 16 birdies during the tournament. He also tied for second in par-3 scoring average (2.75, -3).

Senior Zach Adams placed tied for 55th at one under par while sophomore Marek Fleming and junior Brock Blais both finished tied for 66th at two over par. Adams, Harris, and Fleming each made two eagles during the week to tie with others for most eagles in the field; South Carolina led all teams with six eagles overall.

The Gamecocks were third among all teams in par-3 scoring average (2.93, -4) and tied for fourth in par-5 scoring average (4.53, -28). They ranked seventh in total birdies with fifty-nine.

Virginia won the team title by shooting an aggregate score of 809 (-55), which is the second-lowest team total in tournament history over its thirty-three years.
