Frankie Harris became the all-time wins leader in South Carolina men’s golf history after his victory at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, according to a statement released on March 24. Harris, a redshirt senior and All-American, secured his third win of the season and sixth career victory, surpassing former record-holder Kyle Thompson.
Harris’s achievement marks a significant milestone for both him and the Gamecocks program. His rounds of 67-63-74 at Bulls Bay Golf Club resulted in a total score of 204 (-12), giving him a one-shot win. His bogey-free second round score of 63 tied the program record for lowest single-round score.
The Gamecocks finished second as a team with an overall score of 835 (-29), coming up six shots short behind College of Charleston, which led with seven eagles throughout the tournament. The field faced tougher conditions during the final round, as reflected by an average score increase from 71.08 to 74.80 compared to earlier rounds.
South Carolina also earned a point in the annual South Carolina Education Lottery Palmetto Series by finishing ahead of Clemson by thirteen strokes and holding a two-to-one advantage over their rivals this season. Freshman Talan Harrison climbed thirty-one spots on the leaderboard in his final round with a field-best score of 68 (-4), earning him an eleventh-place tie and marking his fourth top-twenty finish this season.
Senior Zach Adams and sophomore Marek Fleming each finished tied for seventh place with scores of 210 (-6). Adams led all players with forty-four pars over three rounds while only recording three bogeys throughout the tournament.
The Gamecocks will conclude their regular season April 13-14 at The Ford Collegiate before beginning postseason play at the SEC Championship from April 22-26.
