The Columbia Standard, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the South Carolina State Board of Education. The request seeks access to records detailing all instructional mandates for state K-12 schools in South Carolina.
The requested information includes a list of all required courses and general instruction within the state’s K-12 educational system. This data is essential for us at Columbia Standard as we continue our work in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe that access to such public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. In light of our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as media professionals under the provisions of the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act, §30-4-10 et seq.
