Fairfield County officials announced on March 24 that Alvin Graber has been appointed as the new Detention Center Director. The announcement was made during the Fairfield County Council meeting held on March 23.
The appointment is significant for Fairfield County, as it brings a leader with extensive experience in corrections to oversee the local detention center. Graber is set to begin his role on May 4.
Graber has worked for 28 years with the South Carolina Department of Corrections. He began his career in 1995 as a Corrections Officer at Kirkland Re-Entry and Release, which is part of Kirkland Correctional Institution. He later joined the Special Operations Response Team and served as Inmate Grievance Coordinator before being promoted to Dorm Lieutenant at Kirkland Re-Entry and Release. Following this, he became Captain at Watkins Pre-Release and then Major at Manning Re-Entry and Work Release Center. For the past ten years, he held the position of Associate Warden at Goodman Correctional Institution.
The county’s decision aims to leverage Graber’s experience in correctional facility management for improvements within its own detention operations.
Graber’s tenure is expected to begin officially on May 4.
