Fairfield County EMS announced on Apr. 27 that it has received its first-ever Gold designation from the American Heart Association as part of the Mission: Lifeline EMS program.

The recognition highlights improvements in emergency medical response for heart attacks, strokes, and cardiac emergencies in Fairfield County. The Gold award marks an advancement from last year’s Silver award and indicates that Fairfield County EMS has met or exceeded national performance standards for both 2024 and 2025.

According to the announcement, “It means that when someone in Fairfield County is experiencing a heart attack, stroke, or cardiac emergency, our crews are: Recognizing symptoms quickly; Starting critical treatments sooner; Following the highest national standards of care; Working seamlessly with hospitals to get patients the right care, fast.” The statement also said, “This achievement is a direct result of the hard work, training, and dedication of our providers—and their commitment to delivering thorough assessments and high-quality care on every call. We couldn’t be more proud of this team and grateful to serve our community.”

Mission: Lifeline is a nationwide program focused on improving survival rates by ensuring each step—from calling 911 through hospital treatment—is coordinated according to established medical guidelines. Only 130 emergency medical service agencies across the country received early recognition this year.

Beyond emergency services, Fairfield County supports athletic activities through parks and recreation programs offering sports and health classes for all ages according to its official website. The county also enriches community culture with annual festivals, art galleries, historic sites, and museums as reported by its official website. Facilities maintained by Fairfield County include an airport with a 5,243-foot runway as well as libraries and senior centers according to its official website.

Educational achievements have been noted in the area as well; Fairfield County’s magnet school for math and science was recognized with the Palmetto Finest School distinction as per its official website. The county partners with organizations such as Lake Marion Regional Water Agency and Summers Corner Improvement District as noted on its official site.

Looking ahead, officials say that Fairfield County will continue focusing on providing quality of life improvements along with recreational opportunities for residents and visitors according to its official website.
