Columbia man charged with murder after fatal shooting in Lexington County

A Columbia man has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday afternoon, according to an April 5 statement from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office.

Latif Shi’Yon Elijah Ross, 23, faces charges of murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a weapon by a person prohibited. Arrest warrants confirm these charges.

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said deputies were called to an apartment complex off Fernandina Road just before 1:00 p.m. “They found a man with multiple gunshot wounds,” Koon said. Deputies attempted lifesaving measures at the scene, but emergency medical services declared the victim deceased.

Koon also said detectives determined through witness interviews that Ross had been arguing with the victim prior to the shooting. “Ross then left the scene and was arrested by deputies Sunday morning,” Koon said. The suspect is currently being held at the Lexington County Detention Center, which serves as the primary holding facility for detainees and has a capacity of 720 beds according to the official website.
